GREENSPIRIT ARTS / SALLY J. SMITH, environmental artist!! [Oct. 7th, 2010|06:13 pm]

SALLY J. SMITH, "environmental artist." AH-MAZING stuff! She should be at FaerieCon!

Scroll down the page on the artist bio link above and wonder at all the gorgeous prints she has of stunning fae houses she's made. I so have to try to make some of those amazing faery houses!

(I do have to wonder if the leaves in the youtube vid are natural or very good reproductions: they are too uniform in shape in color.) But who cares, SALLY J. SMITH is a genius artist and my new dryad goddess of environmental arts!

Her Faerie Forest Garden, Vermont Show 2009.

Lovely, thanks for sharing! I think the leaves are fake- they sell Autumn leaves in packets at a lot of the craft stores. They are just too unmarred to be real. ;)

Some of those houses look easy enough to make- bet you could take a cardboard paper towel roll, shorten it, cut out the windows and paint it and glue some bark and moss on it. Add your plastic leaves on top, and voila!

The artist says they are not plastic. She spends a LOT of time finding the right materials. She also says she doesn't photoshop. Thing is, she uses ONLY natural materials -- no cardboard towel rolls, and very often no glue but things like porcupine quills to hold leaf roofs in place. Plastic leaves just would not look THIS good. That's why her stuff thrills me deep down.
